The Importance of Social Media Marketing

Updated: Oct 20, 2019

In this blog, I wanted to write on something I’m super passionate about: Social Media Marketing and why it’s SO important to a business.

I really love Social Media, I do. I have seen the power of what social media can do to build businesses up. I speak from experience because I have done it- I’ve put in the work and the passion. I've started social media pages from the ground up only to see them flourish. I've also taken over pages that needed a completely new re-branding strategy. When it comes down to it- I take the time to understand what works and what doesn't work for a brand on different channels. Social media has become such a powerful tool when used effectively and efficiently. And I’m here to share with you why your social media presence is so important to your business.

We are creatures of habit and sometimes we don't even notice it. We wake up in the morning and the first thing we all reach for is our phones. Did you know we subconsciously check our phones anywhere from 80-300 times a day? Insane right?! And in most of these instances, we are on social media. So in a world where our cell phones act as an actual life line to us humans, social media is KING. Be where your customers are. Here are some stats to help put it in perspective:

Social Media Use is GROWING

  • 3.48 billion people now use social media. That’s an increase of 9% from last year. Put another way: 45% of the total world population are using social networks.

  • 366 million new people started using social media in the past year. That’s more than a million new people joining social media every single day.

  • Digital consumers spend nearly 2.5 hours on social networks and social messaging every day.

  • 69% of U.S. adults use at least one social media site.

  • The average American Internet user has 7.1 social media accounts.

  • 51% of 18- to 24-year-olds say social media would be hard to give up.

Social Media is FREE ADVERTISING

FREE! It doesn't cost a penny to post on your social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. That's why I feel as though social media marketing can be highly underrated. Your business should absolutely take advantage of these platforms! Yes, you can pay for ads on social media- but why not capitalize on posting content for free? You can build a strong customer base by having a significant presence on social media. To be candid, your prospective customers are going straight to the source and looking you up on your social media channels second to Google.

Is Your Business Present on Social Media?

If you aren’t, why the heck not?! Make a move and create a page for your business on Facebook and Instagram! I highlight these two platforms because this is where you can find most of your customers and directly connect with them. Keyword: DIRECT. On Facebook, Facebook Business Page has features that allow you to be available for live chats and you can answer inquiries that come through as messages- and (IMPORTANT!) answer them quickly. Customers have discovered that reaching a business on social media can be an easier and more efficient form of communication versus calling them on the phone, and most likely being sent to leave a message. Be available to your customers. Use social media to provide excellent customer service and be there when they need you.

Google Search

Going back to Google. Google is The Godfather to all search engines. We tend to “Google” everything. So if you don’t have a social media page, you could easily miss out on potential customers if your business doesn’t pop up in a Google Search. Don't miss out on your people finding you! This can hurt you from getting business through the door and stop your social media following before it even gets a chance to grow. When searching a business name on Google, the first links to pop up are most likely your business website followed by your business Facebook and Instagram page. Optimize your SEO by using keywords in your posts so that people can track you easier when they're "Googling." Have you searched your own business on Google yet? If you haven’t, DO IT. This is a must for any business owner. See where your biz pops up amongst others. If you want to see better results, think of how you can change keywords and language used on your pages to maximize your reach.

Use Social Media to the Fullest by Posting on these Topics:

  • Promote upcoming products/releases

  • Upcoming events

  • Behind the scenes

  • Team Member highlight

  • Company news

  • ... the list goes on!

If you need help on creating content, I wrote a blog on CONTENT MARKETING. Check it out on the BLOG Main Page.

Making Your Content Matter

The content you put out should be important to you, your followers and potential followers. Post content that matters. Provide them with valuable content. Your followers want to see what you’re up to, what they can look forward to, and they want to feel like they are getting to know you on a personal level. Give your people what they want! Provide them with info you know they will appreciate and you will grow your following to the right audience.

Consistency is KEY

The more you market your brand on social media, the more you are making your brand relevant. I’ve touched on this before, but it will always come down to being consistent. Create a social media schedule for yourself to follow. If you aren’t good with posting everyday, start out with 3 posts per week if that’s what you can handle. Build your content and post habitually. When you're getting in the flow of posting and have great content coming out, you get your followers excited for when you post something new!

I'd like to close with this statement for you:

Great social media can set you apart from the rest.

Be where your customers are. Find your social media platform/s and go crazy. With time, planning, and passion going into your social media presence, it can do wonders for your company's growth.

Thanks for reading, sharing, and liking. I hope you come to love social media as much as I do! I am here to answer any questions so feel free to send an inquiry on the CONTACT US page. Cheers!
